Solar Heating

THE FACTS

  • Enough Energy fall on the Earths surface every hour to meet world energy demands for an entire year.  Solar energy simply makes a lot of sense
  • Solar Heating will provide up to 60% of your domestic hot water requirements.  It will also reduce your energy bills and give you a sense of independence from the utility companies
  • Although Solar could effectively boil your water this would be dangerous. The maximum the controller can be set is 95 degrees; however this controller can be reduced to a useable temperature.
  • Average system will reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions by around 400kg per year depending on what fuel you use
  • Generally an installation takes 2-3 days with very little disruption to your household
  • Running your central heating from Solar is expensive and for most homes not a realistic option.  However it works well with under floor heating
  • Solar is compatible with some combination boilers but this factor does make the system more expensive
  • Your local planning dept should be consulted if you are a listed building, sited in a conversation area or area of outstanding beauty
  • If planning a new build property contact us at the earliest opportunity to discuss your options
  • Current grant information is available from the Low Carbon Buildings Programme.  Grants do not apply on DIY systems and you do not get the reduced VAT rate of 5% that applies if using an accredited installer
  • Systems are relatively maintenance free.  Having a system checked out every 10 years may be beneficial
